Sharon Shore is the Chief Programs Officer and original founder of HOM, Inc., starting the company in July 1994 following a decade of service in the public housing industry and upon her recognition of the need for expertise in the administration of housing programs for homeless and special needs individuals and families.
Prior to her launch of HOM, Sharon spent over 10 years as an administrator of public and assisted housing. Sharon began her housing career as the Executive Director of the Casper, Wyoming public housing authority. Under Sharon's leadership, the agency was recognized by HUD as the "Most Improved PHA" in the nation. Sharon grew the agency by over 550% in her tenure despite severe cuts to HUD’s budget for public housing. While at Casper, Sharon also served as a consultant for multiple housing agencies throughout the state of Wyoming and the western United States at the request of the Denver regional HUD office.
Sharon’s success in Casper led to her appointment by the Secretary of HUD as the Special Assistant to the Regional Administrator in the Denver Regional HUD Office. Sharon served in this role until her relocation to Arizona in 1990, where she continued her path in public housing innovation. Sharon worked as a consultant for the City of Scottsdale where she oversaw the process of bringing all of the assisted housing programs in the Scottsdale jurisdiction into City operations from Maricopa County who previously controlled the programs. Sharon then served as the Director of the agency for two years before starting HOM, Inc.
Sharon’s vision and entrepreneurial leadership quickly established HOM as the primary provider of permanent supportive housing for the Maricopa County Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA). As a result of HOM’s efficient and effective program administration, the RBHA and later Arizona Behavioral Health Corporation (ABC), were highly successful in securing additional HUD Continuum of Care funding for several years, expanding the programs to serve over 1,600 households on a monthly basis throughout Maricopa County.
Ever the entrepreneur, Sharon, together with her husband, spent 2000-2010 acquiring, growing and selling what would become a highly successful design and manufacturing retail décor firm for several national and international food and grocery chains. During this time, Sharon sold HOM to her son, Michael Shore.
Sharon returned to HOM in the fall of 2011 as a consultant to lead the development of Desert Leaf Apartments, a Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) project, in partnership with A New Leaf, in Mesa. In 2012, Sharon returned to full-time employment as the Director of Business Development for the company, assisting with business expansion and retention efforts and start-up of new projects. In March 2015, Sharon transitioned to her current position of Chief Programs Officer, where she is responsible for the management and oversight of all of the housing programs and other services provided to HOM partners and customers. Sharon supervises all program team members and is the primary point of contact for our partners for all housing program-related matters.
Sharon has been recognized by Working Woman Magazine for General Excellence in their Entrepreneurial Excellence Awards and was the recipient of the Woman of Achievement award as presented by Maricopa County YWCA.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren, gardening, golfing and exploring new places.
